‘Crafting’ - a new book

I got a copy of this new book today: ‘Crafting’. The concept came from and was steered by Bernard Graves, Pyrites and was written by a number of crafts-men and women. I took part in the initial meetings planning and forming the shape of the book. Very exciting process and very happy that it is now in print. I can’t wait to read it!

Cotswold Way, Section 3b & 4

The Cotswold Way - Section 3b from Hailes Abbey to Winchcombe and Section 4 from Winchcombe to Cleeve Hill. 13 km walked. A day of two halves: reasonable weather in the early afternoon and very windy later on...

Fan Brycheiniog, Brecon Beacons National Park

Day two of my short trip to the Brecon Beacons National Park. I hiked up to the top of the Mynydd Du range (The Black Mountain) with Fan Brycheiniog (802 m) as its peak alongside Twr Y Fan Foel (802 m). It was another extremely windy day but with clear views. I had my lunch in a beautiful circular stone shelter near the peak. As so few people come her, there was real sense of isolation.

Pen Y Fan, Brecon Beacons National Park

Today I finally managed to hike the route up to Pen Y Fan from the Taf Fechan Forest via the Lower Neuadd Reservoir using the well known Horseshoe Trail. It is a 16 km route largely along cliff edges taking in Craig Gwaun Taf (826 m), Corn Du (873 m) and Pen Y Fan (886 m). The route also takes in Cribyn (795 m).

Woodwork Curriculum - Class X

Class X pupils start to focus more and more on understanding how to produce items for a client. In this instance they have been making toys and resources for Kindergarten children made out of natural materials. Strong design and a good finish were key aspects of the project.

Woodwork Curriculum - Class IX

Pupils in Class IX have been exploring various simple outdoor projects in construction including playground- and outdoor learning shelters. Again the emphasis is on learning to work together as a team, communicating around the needs of the project and at times, when doing a task, learning to   'sacrifice' ones own wishes for the greater good of the project!

Cotswold Way, Section 2 + 3a

Another amazing day on the trail: we walked Section 2 of the Cotswold Way from Broadway to Wood Stanway as well as Section 3a, from Wood Stanway to Hailes Abbey. A total of 16 km - only 138 km to go!
