Again, not a huge amount of training and prep... so I was in two minds whether I should participate or not. I eventually made a decision and didn't regret it! The Brussels Half Marathon did not disappoint.
Some key experiences of the even was to run through the National Stadium and in the shadow of the Atomium; the parks were great and the crowds very encouraging.
I also changed tactics a little bit by pushing myself on the downhills rather than using them for recovery... and I think that paid off: I was able to maintain a steady running pace for the whole distance and crossed the line at 01:57:11 - good for my second fastest HM! Looking forward to the next event already...

AJ Bell Bristol Half Marathon 2024
I managed to do very little training during the lead up to this year's Bristol HM but decided to go for it anyway. The first 18km went relatively smooth despite the hot weather, I was feeling good and maintained a consistent pace. Due to the lack of training however, I suddenly hit a wall and needed to alternate running and walking until the finish line - which couldn't come soon enough!! Still, all things considered, I managed a reasonable time of 2hrs 8min and 47sec...

Stroud Half Marathon 2023
I TOTALLY SMASHED it at the Stroud Half Marathon this morning: a time of 01:50:25!!! After last year's Great Bristol Run in 2hr 4min and somewhat the disappointing 2hr 13min earlier this year also in Bristol, I would have been happy to finish with anything under 2hrs today...
My training had been going exceptionally well over recent weeks, but I nevertheless felt some apprehension about the Stroud HM, not least of all because there are a few small inclines along the route. I more or less stuck to my race plan and, as the inclines turned out to be far less of a worry, I was able to keep on pushing through. I maintained an average of 05:12 min/km and stayed strong during the last 3km... Amazing sunshine and perfect temperatures all along the route. Bring on Bristol HM '24 for my 4th!!!

AJ Bell Bristol Half Marathon 2023
I completed my 2nd ever Half Marathon in Bristol today. Training didn’t go as planned (with a back injury; away on holiday; bitten by a dog; too many rainy nights; off sick with this covid/flu thing and overall low in energy!) and I certainly felt it!
It was a tough event and I had to walk a few short inclines during the last 3km... but I pushed through and managed a time of 02:13:55… As last year, there was an amazing atmosphere along the route!

Great Run Bristol Half Marathon 2022
I took up running about 4.5 years ago and decided last autumn that I should train for a long distance event this year. What an amazing experience running the Great Run Bristol Half-Marathon 2022 with over 15,000 other runners today! I loved every minute and was surprised how well it went. As it was my first long distance event ever, I thought my time of 02:04:34 over the 21 km was fairly decent… training, race-day prep and race planning & execution certainly paid off. Now some rest before planning the next event...
